The new office building defines the entrance to the Grünenthal Campus and creates a modern communicative and flexible work environment for around 200 members of staff. The seven staggered storeys are a characteristic feature of the contemporary structure. The offices, which can be adapted to meet new user requirements, are located along the long sides of the building, where they have access to daylight and natural ventilation. The centre zone of each level provides additional space for communicative activities, such as meeting areas, coffee and lounge facilities, archives and copy rooms. Views out into the campus and the landscape surrounding Aachen can be enjoyed from the three terraces created through the staggered levels on the outside of the building.
The geothermal system provides the building with sufficient energy for heating and cooling. Due to the combination of a highly insulated building envelope with a ground pile system, thermally activated building components and a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery facilities, the building is almost entirely self-sufficient. The use of renewable energies and a resource-saving supply system ensure that the new build achieves a high level of sustainability.
