#Renovation and revitalization of the historic bank building, with the addition of two extensions

@Jens Kirchner

The new building echoes the layout of the historic facade, creating a harmonious blend of old and new.

The historic bank building is located in the city center, directly across from Aachen’s municipal theater. In close consultation with the historic preservation authorities, the landmark-protected building was carefully revitalized and expanded with two modern office buildings on adjacent lots.

@kadawittfeldarchitektur

The facade of the bank building, constructed in 1910, with its Neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau elements, has been carefully reconstructed. The new structures engage in a contemporary dialogue with the historic building: Their metal panels echo the structure of the old building in terms of dimensions and layout, while subtly nuanced bronze tones carry forward its color palette.

The interplay of old and new creates a spatially diverse, modern office environment that offers flexible conditions for a variety of workplace concepts. The landscaped courtyard and spacious rooftop terraces expand the workspaces with high-quality open areas. They serve as places for breaks and socializing as well as temporary outdoor workspaces. From here, the upper floors offer sweeping views across the city all the way to the cathedral and city hall.

The spacious, inviting ground floor is characterized by the impressive ceiling height and the historic features of the former bank building. Flexible spaces here allow for both retail and dining uses and contribute to a vibrant ground-floor area.
