Rethinking. Implement

Rethinking. Implement

Presentation by Jasna Moritz at the seminar “Sustainable planning and building” – Regulatory requirements and solutions for sustainability calculation and circularity on February 1, 2024 at the Schüco Showroom in Frankfurt am Main.

One of the major challenges of our time is achieving climate neutrality in the building sector. The construction industry has the task of meeting the ambitious targets set by politicians and reducing the CO2 emissions generated during the construction, operation and demolition of buildings to zero. However, managing this process and thus complying with complex regulations and certifications is difficult to reconcile with the situation of those involved in construction. For investors and project developers as well as for planning and architecture firms, it is becoming increasingly challenging to navigate the multitude of requirements and specifications.

In addition to Jasna Moritz, kadawittfeldarchitektur, Dr. Peter Mösle, EPEA GmbH and Drees & Sommer SE, Dr. Kati Herzog, Goldbeck GmbH and Thomas Schlenker, Schüco International KG, will talk about their experiences and show examples of best practice. This will be followed by a panel discussion with all speakers.

Further information can be found on the event website.

The shell of the new company headquarters Hoffmann SE

with its two-storey arcades and playfully irregularly arranged, slender columns is already making a fantastic impression!

The building complex is being constructed in the immediate vicinity of the future Freiham district center near Munich and will house workplaces for around 1,250 employees in addition to an innovation center for product development and extensive areas for a customer experience world. The polygonal structure around a green inner courtyard forms a tower as a striking urban high point, where the main entrance is also located. The façade of slender ceramic elements and glass emphasizes the verticality of the building. The terraced courtyard, which can be used in a variety of ways, serves to retain water with positive effects on biodiversity and the microclimate.

The project is the result of a competition that we won together with Auböck + Karaz Landschaftsarchitekten. It was organized by the project company Projekt Bodenseestraße GmbH & Co. KG with the support of the Büschl Group and in coordination with the City of Munich.

Aachen climate-neutral 2030 - we are part of it!

As a partner in the framework agreement, kadawittfeldarchitektur is supporting the city of Aachen in its goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2030. Our commitment includes our own measures in the corporate mobility, procurement/services and energy sectors, and we are also ambassadors for a more climate-friendly construction industry.

In April 2022, Aachen was selected by the EU Commission as one of nine German cities for the EU mission “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030”. The aim is to reduce emissions of behavior-related greenhouse gases. To this end, the cities are implementing measures for clean mobility, energy efficiency and green urban planning and involving all interest groups. Aachen is also one of three model cities that are taking on a pioneering role.

shaping the future - merry christmas and a happy year 2024

“hemp premium plus” – that sounds like a good high. but you would be doing the fast-growing plant an injustice if you reduced it to this effect. from 1000 BC until the middle of the 19th century, hemp was the most widely cultivated crop in the world. it was used to make clothing, canvas and even paper: the 42-line gutenberg bible was printed on hemp and levi strauss sewed the first jeans from hemp. the seeds of the plant can also be eaten, they are rich in protein, contain a whole range of vitamins and plenty of unsaturated fatty acids.

today, the respective thc content determines whether a hemp plant falls under the narcotics act or is an agricultural crop that can be used to make ropes, for example. hemp rope is low-stretch, tear and abrasion resistant, unaffected by strong acids – great! how we would love to transfer these properties to other products. hemp is also suitable for insulation . the photo does not show synthetic hazardous waste that pollutes the environment after the demolition of a building, but a natural product that firstly grows back and secondly decomposes itself when it is composted.

and there are even more advantages of hemp as a building material: little water is used in its production, co₂ is bound, and it can be grown without pesticides because the plant is resistant to pests. hemp insulation allows houses to breathe naturally by wicking moisture away through the fibers. at the same time, it offers excellent protection against summer heat, has a very good sound insulation value and can be used without protective clothing – so why aren’t such clever materials used everywhere? so please take this post as both a new year’s greeting and an educational card about how we want to plan and build: ecologically oriented, sustainable and sensible. and with building materials that are not only intelligent, but also beautiful. just like the buildings we plan for you.

wishing you a happy new year

"I was young and needed the money - reflection on the ideals of my youth"

Lecture by Gerhard Wittfeld on November 11, 2023 at AKJAA 30 – FOREVER YOUNG.

The Association of German Architects invites you to the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Working Group Young Architects of the BDA in the Projekttheater Dresden.

The title of the event stands on the one hand for the constant renewal of the members of the AKJAA by the younger generation in the BDA, and on the other hand also for the fact that a rebellious element accompanies our advocacy of good architecture – regardless of the question of age. Together, the former and active members of AKJAA are asking themselves if rebellion will keep them forever young.

In line with the question, Gerhard Wittfeld will give a lecture at 18h30 entitled “I was young and needed the money – reflection on the ideals of my youth”, in which he will reflect on his career with the help of some project examples.

Smart and circular. From Grey to Green

Lecture by Gerhard Wittfeld and subsequent panel discussion on November 24, 2023 at the Zukunft Bau Kongress 2023.

The Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction, together with the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development, invites you to this year’s Zukunft Bau Kongress, which will take place on November 23 and 24 under the title “BAUWENDE: umbruch aufbruch” at the WCCB Bonn.

In his lecture on November 24, 2023 in Forum 1 “Wirtschaftswende” between 10h30 and 12h00, Gerhard Wittfeld will address, among other things, the role of economic factors for the implementation of the building turnaround as well as the economic opportunities that arise from this for architects and planners.

Prof. Katharina Kleinschrot, TU Dresden, Zech Group, Sarah Dungs, Greyfield Group, and Dr. Oliver Streiff, ZHAW School of Management and Law, will also speak in the same forum. This will be followed by a panel discussion with the other speakers, in which Gerhard Wittfeld will also participate.

Designing The Future

The City of Tomorrow – Urban Transformation” – Panel discussion with Kilian Kada on October 25, 2023 at DESIGNING THE FUTURE SUMMIT 2023.

What, how, when, why and where do we want to develop, plan, build and operate in the future? And which products, materials, processes and qualities should be used in the process?

These are the central questions of this year’s DESIGNING THE FUTURE initiative, which will culminate in the Circular Design, Building and Construction Summit in Berlin on October 25 and 26, 2023.

Here, the interdisciplinary dialogue on design, process, material, building, construction and design will be used to discuss approaches to solutions for sustainable building and real estate developments.

Recommendations for the building of tomorrow will be formulated from the processes of creation, circularity and the various construction methods.

In the panel discussion on October 25, 2023 from 11h30 to 11h45, Kilian Kada will highlight, among other things, the correct use of existing substance, how to look for and harness potential in the context of reprogramming, and the social impact that a house can have on its surroundings.

VALUING - Urban Mining, House as Warehouse

Panel discussion with Jasna Moritz on September 29th, 2023 at the Deutsche Architekt*innentag 2023.

The German Federal Chamber of Architects is organizing this year’s Deutsche Architekt*innentag under the motto “Transformation – Strengthening Spaces” at bcc Berlin Congress Center.

The comprehensive program consists of several keynotes as well as parallel panels on the urban-rural continuum and existing buildings, land and use, material use and circular economy, young professionals, leadership, and the value of our planning as part of the transformation that will define our work for decades to come.

In the panel discussion on “VALUING – Urban Mining, House as Warehouse” from 11h40 to 13h00, Jasna Moritz will highlight, among other things, the crucial role of the material cycle for resource-efficient and climate-smart building and how the principles of urban mining and cradle-to-cradle promise solutions on the way to a value-appreciating material cycle in this context.

kwa holiday fun in the office

We attach great importance to offering our colleagues reliable childcare during the vacation season. That’s why we were pleased to introduce a one-week vacation program in Aachen for children aged 2 and up for the first time. With the help of a dedicated external team, a diverse program was designed with activities ranging from climbing to a visit to the zoo.

The response was overwhelming: Our young participants not only enjoyed the exciting activities, but also the daily office experience alongside their parents. In the afternoons, some took the opportunity to playfully explore our office, play table tennis, use foosball, or collaboratively build models in the workshop. Each day started in the meeting room, accompanied by a snack and the presentation of the day’s schedule by the supervisors. After that, the adventure began for our little explorers!

ALL UNDER ONE ROOF – Newspaper #24

How do the most diverse functions combine to form a lively ensemble? In the best case, the answer is spaces with their own quality of stay, spaces that themselves invite people to meet and exchange ideas. The design for the new DFB campus in Frankfurt a. M. developed an all-connecting boulevard from this idea. It unites and, where necessary, separates administration and research, areas for visitors and retreat zones for athletes, public spaces and sports fields integrated into the architecture. The look at the new building is accompanied by a conversation with Prof. Dr. Dr. Markus Raab, sports psychologist at the German Sport University in Cologne, about goals, emotions, teamwork and missed penalties.

Also: a review of AachenMünchener’s 2010 headquarters, which succeeded in fitting corporate concerns into the city and adding unexpected functions thanks to its spatial concept.

Inauguration of InnoDom Cologne celebrated

On Tuesday, 20 June, the opening of the “InnoDom Cologne” was celebrated in Cologne Lindenthal.

The project was built on behalf of the Cologne University Foundation. The creative exchange, appropriation, and cooperation of start-up companies, university and business are promoted through a versatile and adaptable working landscape.
The interior design, which creates an inspiring atmosphere between think tank and workshop, deserves special mention. Visible concrete surfaces and open installations leave plenty of room for user customization and appropriation. This contrasts with the colorful accents of the furnishings in the LIKE ITs and individual meeting niches and built-in furniture, which are grouped as functional modules around the central access core.
